Not much to report after tonights meeting. Plenty was accomplished but it is all shrouded in secrecy. All I can tell you is some changes were made but they are a surprise, you will have to show up in Stevens Point to see what has changed.
The team also did an improve instant challenge where they randomly drew a place, an event, and a character. The team drew Heaven, A Robbery, and Super Dog. They then had 5 minutes to prepare a 3 minute skit using these items. The team came up with a good story about stolen halos, and super dog and his trusty side kick save the day.
One more meeting next week and then it's off to Stevens Point.

Meeting #21 - 4/6/2010
Team 14's season continues. After their second place finish at the Green Bay regional tournament the team is no preparing for the state tournament in Stevens Point on 4/17.
This meeting we took a look at the raw scores from the teams main challenge to decide what if anything they wanted to change. The team decided to reinforce their main set piece to make it stand better and take some of the bow out of it.
The team also had some fun playing a "minute to win it" game http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to/ involving creating a cup pyramid and taking it back down.
We also did a task based instant challenge called "The Tipping Point". The team had a lot of good ideas while working on this challenge but couldn't quite focus enough to pull it all together. At this point in the meeting it became very clear to me in general this team doesn't do well with evening meetings - they are too tired out from the day to completely focus.
At the end the team did some rehearsals of their main performance but playing another team members role. The team really enjoyed doing this and it should help them see their performance from a different perspective.
Be sure to check out the photo album for some photos from tournament and from this meeting.

Meeting #20 - 3/19/2010
Twas the night before tournament
and team 14
did final rehearsals
each and every scene
Their timing was good
Their story was fine
They finished one rehearsal
Within the alloted time
Tomorrow is the day
We will meet at 10
they will go to the IC
they will rock that and then
Off to present their solution
for the challenge DI-bot
Some think they are nervous
I think they are not
Win or lose they will put on
A performance to rock the joint
If the stars align just right
Perhaps they will do it again in Stevens Point
I'm out of rhymes for the tonight
Now it's time for bed
With visions of team 14
Dancing in my head
and team 14
did final rehearsals

Meeting #19 - 3/14/2010
The team did some fine tuning today, an instant challenge and a rehearsal. They are all ready for tournament.
If it works out they would like to have one more short meeting Friday night, do a quick rehearsal and help load up the van.
Just a couple new pictures in the photo album this week.
Next weekend, it's tournament time!

Meeting #18 - 3/7/2010
Two meetings in a row with everyone present! The team did more rehearsing today, including two rehearsals where they moved all of their set pieces and props in. On one of these rehearsals they actually came in under the required amount of time, I happened to record this one there is a link below.

The team also did two instant challenges, one task based where they had to build a bridge and get the two bases as far apart as possible, there is one new picture in the photo album showing the finished product. In another challenge they had to make up three different uses for a single object and incorporate them into a skit of some kind.
We have one final meeting next Sunday (3/14/2010) at 3pm. The Saturday after that (3/20/2010) is the regional tournament at Ashwaubenon High School. Team 14 will have their instant challenge at 11:00am and their main challenge at 1:30pm. My plan for the weekend is currently...
Friday afternoon/evening
Stop at LeClair's house to load up all of the teams stuff, probably around 6pm if this works for the LeClair's. I'm hoping I can get all of the teams stuff into my van with the seats removed.
Saturday Morning
I'll be arriving early at tournament so all of the stuff will already be there bright and early. I would like the team to meet at 10:00am near the registration area. We will then make a quick stop to hopefully watch St. Bernard Team 12 present their solution to Challenge A, then we'll move to the Instant Challenge area and do our Instant Challenge at 11:00am. After the Instant Challenge we will visit the room our main challenge will be in to get a feel for the room. If anyone wants to grab a quick bit to eat we will probably do that next and then start moving our stuff to the staging area for our 1:30pm presentation.

Meeting #17 - 2/28/2010
We finally had a meeting with all team members present, it had been a while! The did some serious rehearsing today. Their first rehearsal had their performance timing in at over 9 minutes (they need to be under 8 including set up time), by their last performance they were at 7:30. Their last performance was recorded and is posted below so they can critique themselves.

The team basically has a few last minute details to cover, a little more rehearsal time, and they are ready for tournament. Next week all team members should bring what they think would make a good costume for their character. Tournament details are starting to come in. Team 14 will perform their DI-Bot solution at 1:30pm, the last middle school DI bot performance of the day. We do not know what time their instant challenge will be yet. I'll keep you posted as more details become available.

Meeting #16 - 2/21/2010
The team is making great progress. Today the platform for the television was finished up and tested out, check out the great pictures in the photo album. The television is a pretty neat illusion. The season spinner is also being finalized, about 3 of the four seasons are completed, hopefully next week it will be tested with the overall set backdrop.
The final thing the team needs is some practice time with all team members present, a few good hours of practice and they will be ready for tournament.
Next weekend is the sneak peek. We are in the 9:25am time slot which will hopefully work out well with our team members who are also in solo AND ensemble that morning. The team WILL talk a little bit about their challenge, show off their DI-bot and do a quick instant challenge.

Meeting #15 - 2/14/2010
The marathon meeting!
We had a small group this week but got a lot done. The team solved one big issue with how to fit Luke into the TV; Luke got a good start on cutting some pieces that will become a platform for the TV. The TV will sit on this platform and conceal his legs.
Kristy and Megan spent a lot of time painting the main set; the walls are a nice light blue (much to Luke's dismay) and the door is a nice deep purple.
Mrs. Shuck attended our meeting and brought a great instant challenge along. The challenge forced the team to decide between playing it safe and getting some points or risking points and trying to get more. The team went risky and ended up losing their points but had a good time doing it.
Please make sure you visit the latest Doodle page so we can get our final meetings scheduled. There is a little more than four weeks until tournament! There is a link to the Doodle calendar below.
Also check out the photo album for some new pictures from this week's action.

Meeting #14 - 2/7/2010
Team 14's, 14th meeting!
Another good meeting today. The team started working on their main backdrop scenery, put some finishing touches on the car, finished the recycling container, finished their team sign, added some details to their DI-Bot, and added a curtain to their TV. Both of their side trips have been identified and they have even started their paper work.
The team ended the meeting by quickly solving a classic puzzle (see this link for a copy).
There are a handful of new pictures in the photo album.

Meeting #13 - 1/30/10
The team made a lot of progress today. The paint brushes came out and now the car is painted, the TV is created, the checkout counter is created, and the recycling bin is painted.
The team also did an instant challenge where they had to build two structures in five minutes. At the end of the five minutes they had to hang one structure from the other. They got points for the height of the first structure and points for the height of the second structure if it successfully hung from the first structure for 30 seconds. The team did very well on this challenge, maxing out the height points for the first and second structure. They figured out some key elements pretty quickly, the second structure didn't need to be very strong since it was hung from the first one. They also built the first structure near the edge of the table which enabled them to dangle the second structure off the edge of the table allowing them to hang the second structure off a lower, stronger point of the first structure.
Finally the team did a quick run through of their performance. I timed and recorded the performance, they still have items to add but right now it is looking good time wise. We have about seven weeks until tournament and right now I think the team is in great shape. I'll be figuring out February meetings soon so watch your email.
You can check out the latest pictures of the teams progress in the photo album.
That's all for this week.

Meeting #12 - 1/23/10
Houston, we have a DI-Bot.
The team has completed the central part of the challenge, their DI bot. This garbage can amazingly sorts garbage from recycling, spits out the recycling and teachers it's owner about the proper way to recycle. The recycling is spit out of the garbage can using a hinge, an inclined plane, a pulley, and a rope. Garbage is actually secretly thrown into a separate compartment inside the garbage can so it is not spit out.
The team also created a list of things it needs for next week, here is the list, please send along any of the items you can next week...
Check out the photo album to see some of the progress.
Great progress is being made!

Meeting #11 - 1/9/10
Our first meeting of the new year. Also our first meeting at LeClair's house.
We started the meeting with some planning, we identified all of the scenes in our performance and all of the props, set pieces, etc. that are required. This did a good job of identifying how much work remains. Then we took a look at the calendar to see about how many meetings we have to complete all of this. There are only about 9 weeks until tournament so roughly 9 meetings.
The team then dove in and started creating some more stuff. We now have a remote control (for a television), the beginnings of a car, a cash register, and a rough start on some other set pieces.
Towards the end of our meeting the LeClair's introduced us to a great game called "Yikerz" (click the name of the game to see it at Amazon). A very cool easy to play game.
Next weekend is the Instant Challenge day at Valley View Elementary School. We are scheduled for the early session, Saturday, January 16th, at 9am. I'll send more details out early next week.
Unfortunately no pictures this week, the batteries in my camera were dead!
